Recipients of Harrisdale Green Community Grants were announced on 1 May at a presentation ceremony attended by the City of Gosnells Mayor, Olwen Searle, and Deputy Mayor for City of Armadale, Jeff Munn.
The eight organisations who benefited from the grants include:
• Bletchley Park Primary School Parents & Friends Inc will implement community development programme called English through Cooking.
• Carey Baptist College will hire the main stage at the renowned 'Monster Fair' event held in October 2011.
• Champion Lakes Boating Club Inc will purchase intermediate oars suitable for training and racing for a schools rowing program.
• Forrestdale Community Kindergarten will put the money towards the upgrade of their community kindergarten outdoor play area and increase security.
• Forrestdale Junior Football Club will pay for flags and literature to help promote the club into the newer communities and schools.
• Carey United Soccer Club will fund additional game day goals and nets to cater for their growing membership.
• Bletchley Park Primary School will build a sensory garden for their students with special needs.
• Centrepoint Church will help pay for facilities at Thornlie Christian College to host the Watoto Children's Choir from Africa.
The eight not-for-profit organisations applied for the funding under the Harrisdale Green Community Grants program which was unveiled in February this year. Each of the groups had to demonstrate how they would implement activities that would benefit the community of Harrisdale or the surrounding area.
Cedar Woods launched the new scheme to support grass-roots groups that traditionally struggled to get funding but play an important role in building healthy and cohesive neighbourhoods.
Cedar Woods’ State Manager WA, Stuart Duplock said the company is passionate about helping to establish vibrant communities at all its developments and a key part of this involves supporting local organisations via its Community Grants program.
The program will run again in 2012.
