The 14.5-kilometre extension to connect Thornlie and Cockburn Central stations will be Perth’s first east-west rail connection, making travel around the city by train much more flexible; it is the first stage of the proposed Circle Line, providing east-west train travel for the first time.
The extension will provide local residents – including those residents of Harrisdale Green – with better connections and more public transport options. The project will involve the construction of two new train stations – Nicholson Road Station and Ranford Road Station – as well as the introduction of 20 proposed bus routes which will provide residents of surrounding areas direct access to both stations. The extension will also support the introduction of a Mandurah special service for events at Perth Stadium.
